Christopher Ciccone once called his sister Madonna Louise “her own
masterpiece.” That she is, an intricately crafted figure of great
rarity who may or may not be a feminist icon, may or may not be much
of a singer, may or may not be a narcissistic empty vessel, but is one
thing for sure: a rock star of the highest order, one with savvy,
style and legs.Madonna fans can win signed Mario Testino print –

Recognition for pop icons –
Source: Peoplenews.comYou can make millions, fill stadiums and be a mainstay of gossip
columns, but you know you’ve really made it when you get an entry in
the Encyclopedia Britannica. So take a bow Madonna, JK Rowling and
Anthony Hopkins, who are to be recognized as cultural players on the
level of Darwin and Freud in the 2002 edition. Among the others who
have earned entries are Poet Laureate Andrew Motion, Dame Judi Dench
and Martin Amis. Although these new entries will undoubtedly raise
eyebrows in some quarters, the Encyclopedia’s editor, Christine Hodgson,
denied that it a symptom of dumbing down. ‘The growing interest in
popular culture among scholars has prompted us to devote more coverage
than ever to the modern day icons of pop. At the same time, we continue
to cover traditional subjects with the same scholarly excellence for
which Britannica has long been known,’ she said.Madonna To Compose and Perform Main Title Song for “Die Another Day” –

Hello ICONers,We’re dropping you a line to let you know that the new ICON Magazine
issue is finally at the printer after overcoming a few unexpected
delays, and will be on its way in the mail to everyone around the world
over the next couple of weeks. We’re really excited about this issue and
hope you feel it was worth the wait. We also wanted to let you know that
there are lots of great plans in the works here at Camp Madonna, but
more on this in a moment…This issue represents our preeminent Drowned World Tour issue with our
city-by-city, venue-by-venue, show-by-show coverage of the hottest
ticket of 2001. We’ve got tons of incredible photos and
behind-the-scenes reporting from the front row and backstage, not only
from Madonna herself, but also from her trusted confidante Liz “The
Validator” Rosenberg, along with dozens of fans including ICON VIP
ticket winners from each and every show on the road. We’ve also got the
latest scoop on the new studio album Madonna is currently working on,
along with some great pix and info from the set of the movie “Love, Sex,
Drugs & Money,” her husband Guy Ritchie’s latest directorial effort
starring none other than the Missus. Also, a little heads up to all ICONers — we recently got our hot little
hands on all of the remaining backstage passes that were produced for
each Drowned World Tour show. Unfortunately — or fortunately for all of
us — they made way too many backstage passes considering that Madonna,
being the family woman that she is, participated in very limited
backstage activities this time around. So included with your ICON mag
issue will be one of these very exclusive backstage passes randomly
chosen from one of the shows. Each show had a different pass produced
for that particular show, some being cloth and some laminated — but all
are totally genuine, very official, and ultra-collectable!Until next time, we hope that everyone is having a happy, healthy & safe
2002!With best regards,

MadonnaTO OPEN AT WYNDHAM’S THEATRE IN LONDON
ON 23 MAY 2002
Madonna will make her West End stage debut, in “UP FOR GRABS”, a new
comedy by David Williamson, which will open at Wyndham’s Theatre in
London on 23 May, following previews from 9 May. With a cast of seven,
the British premiere of this acclaimed Australian play will be directed
by Laurence Boswell.David Williamson’s brilliantly funny satire on the art world opened in
Sydney in February 2001 where demand for tickets was so overwhelming
that the run was extended and all records were broken. This bitingly funny comedy delves into the darker recesses of the
super-privileged. Focusing on their virtues, vices and ulterior
motives, it is a hugely entertaining insight into what makes people tick
when money is no object. When one of Jackson Pollock’s finest works slips quietly onto the market
a sharp and ambitious art dealer is determined to make her fortune.
Risking everything she has through the course of a tense private
auction, she plays off her wealthy clients against each other,
manipulating their greed, lust and power as the price of the painting
surges. The first British production of this contemporary comedy will be
directed by Laurence Boswell, whose recent credits include the
critically acclaimed productions of A Day in the Death of Joe Egg and
Ben Elton’s Popcorn. The production will be designed by Jeremy Herbert.David Williamson is Australia’s leading playwright, whose 30 year career
of writing stage plays and original screenplays (including Gallipoli and
The Year of Living Dangerously) has made him an international success.Madonna has previously appeared on the New York stage in David Mamet’s
Speed-the-Plow (Broadway) as well as in a limited run of David Raab’s
Goose and Tom Tom (Lincoln Center).Further casting for “UP FOR GRABS” will be announced shortly.

In the March 2002 issue of InStyle Magazine they have a picture of
Madonna during her DWT in a section which they devote to the designer
Catherine Maladrino. The picture is a close up of Madonna when she is riding the bull wearing
the American flag shirt which was designed by Catherine Maladrino. Also, they mention that Madonna uses the hair conditioner, Terax Crema,
which is also used by a lot of other celebrities and that she uses
nail-polish by OPI and for her wedding to Guy Ritchie she wore an OPI

Source: MTVhttp://www.mtv.com/news/articles/1452328/20020215/story.jhtml
Ah, awards season is upon us. While some are busy forecasting Grammy
winners, guitar aficionados may very well be preoccupied by another
awards ceremony – the Orville H. Gibson Guitar Awards. Artists compete
in such categories as Best Rock Guitarist, Best Bassist and Best Guitar
Band. Not surprisingly, U2 snagged nominations in all three of those
categories this year, earning them the most nods. What is surprising is Madonna’s nomination for the Les Paul Horizon
Award, which honors the most promising up-and-coming guitarist.
Presumably she’s being recognized for the work she did when she strapped
on the old six-string during last year’s Drowned World Tour.Other nominees in the category are pop-rock newcomer Michelle Branch,
John Mayer, Pete Yorn, bluesman Chris Thomas King and Latin-pop solo
artist Juanes. The annual Gibson Guitar Awards are voted on by members of the music
media, and will be presented on February 26 at the Knitting Factory in
Los Angeles, according to the Gibson guitar company.Thursday, February 7 2002 New Madonna photo to be unveiled –
Hot contemporary artist Andreas Gursky will unveil a monumental
photograph of Madonna on February 12, 2002 at the Pompidou Center in
Paris. And he does mean unveil: Nobody, including the superstar herself,
gets to see the 10-foot by 6-foot photo before it goes on public view.
That policy, imposed by the photographer, has the Madonna camp biting
its fingernails. “We’re all freaking out wondering what it’s going to
look like,” says Madonna’s art adviser Darlene Lutz. “It’s not that we
don’t trust him,” she adds, “but not knowing is totally nerve-wracking.”
Mr. Gursky isn’t just another paparazzo. His show of photographs at the
Museum of Modern Art was among the most acclaimed photography
exhibitions in New York in recent years. Here’s what Madonna’s people do
know: Mr. Gursky snapped the photo during a tense concert in Los Angeles
two days after the September 11th New York City terrorist tragedies.
Powerhouse New York dealer Matthew Marks, who represents Mr. Gursky,
says only that the picture will be one of the artist’s “more exciting
works.” The gallery says Mr. Gursky will sell six prints of the photo
“if he’s happy with the outcome.” No matter what it looks like, the
picture could be worth a bundle. Gursky’s workings and his new Madonna
photograph will move to the Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago in
June. (source: SF Gate)Tuesday, February 5 2002 SNL Madonna Special –
